Year 5 Owls

Welcome to Owls

Class Teacher: Miss Winfield
Learning Support: Miss Purnell

Welcome back to Owls. We have started the term quickly as before we know it, it'll be Christmas.

In the run-up to Christmas, in the wider curriculum, we are studying the Benin Kingdom - home to the Edo people and the civil war. We will also be investigating different forces of friction, gravity, resistance and upthrust.

In English, we are spending time looking at our sentence structure, thinking about linking adverbs to produce a final piece of writing around persuasive speech.

We will be reading in school every day, through individual lessons, quiet reads, 1:1 reads, class reads 'I read, we read, you read' and with our class book. Please ensure that you have a reading book in school every day and please read at home, at least 5 times a week. Reading is vitally important for all aspects of school life.

Mathematics will focus on the 4 operations - we are coming to the end of our addition and subtraction, so moving on to multiplication and division. We will be investigating a range of methods to support our learning and application. We will continue to practise our timetables through our rolling numbers and TTRockstars.

Spellings will be given out and tested/marked on a Friday - please make sure these are practised at home.

Our PE will take place on a Wednesday and Friday. Wednesday will be gymnastics and so remember to bring your shorts. On both these days, please remember to come in your correct school PE kit. If your child is swimming, then please remember your towel, swimming kit and swimming hat.
