I hope that you had a lovely Christmas break and are ready to tackle the short Spring term.

We will be taking every opportunity to work towards our SATs in May and make sure that your knowledge is secure. This term we will continue to encourage that homework is completed to help support the learning in class and we will be running 'booster' sessions before and after school in both Reading and Mathematics. 

In Spring 1, we will become journalists, writing a newspaper report incorporating a higher level punctuation of colons and semi-colon, we will also look at formal language and both direct and indirect speech. 

We will be reading in school every day, through individual lessons, quiet reads, 1:1 reads, class reads 'I read, we read, you read' and with our class book. Please ensure that you have a reading book in school every day and please read at home, at least 5 times a week. Reading is vitally important for all aspects of school life.

In Mathematics, we will continue to practise all areas of the curriculum but we will be focussing in class on fractions, ratio, measurement and statistics. We will continue to practise the fluency but also look deeply into answering word problems, pulling out the maths for an easier understanding. For all of our mathematics, knowledge of multiplication tables are essential, so please ensure that these are practised at home regularly. You can use your TTRockstars account to help support this.

Through the wider curriculum, Foxes class will be learning all about World Wars 1&2 in History, the Leicestershire trade and industry in Geography and Electricity in Science. These will be completed in blocks with recaps throughout the year. We will also be exploring Art in the 20^th Century, Modernism and beyond - critiquing and mirroring famous artists and their work.

Spellings will be given out and tested/marked on a Friday - please make sure these are practised at home.

Homework will be given out on a Friday, please make sure this is completed and back in school on the Thursday. We will be marking in class together.

Our PE will take place on a Wednesday and Friday. Wednesday will be gymnastics and so remember to bring your shorts. On both these days, please remember to come in your correct school PE kit. If your child is swimming, then please remember your towel, swimming kit and swimming hat.
