Year 6 Foxes
Welcome to Foxes
Class Teacher: Mrs Carpenter
Learning Support:
Welcome back after the half-term, I hope you are all eager and raring to go.
We will be taking every opportunity to work towards our SATs in May and make sure that your knowledge is secure. This term we will continue to encourage that homework is completed to help support the learning in class, and we will continue our 'booster' sessions before and after school in both Reading and Mathematics.
Mathematics
We will mainly be calculating fractions, decimals, and percentages and area and perimeter. During this half-term, we will continue to recap the 4-operations and look at boosting our arithmetic skills through various methods.
Keep practising your timetables using your TTRockstar logins.
English
This half-term we are writing descriptive narratives, taking a focus on commas for clarity and extending our punctuation of hyphens and dashes. Included in our sentences will be personification, similes, metaphors and alliteration - all different ways to help describe something and create an image in the readers mind.
We will be reading in school every day, through individual lessons, quiet reads, 1:1 reads, class reads 'I read, we read, you read' and with our class book. Please ensure that you have a reading book in school every day and please read at home, at least 5 times a week. Reading is vitally important for all aspects of school life.
World Book Day
We are looking forward to celebrating World Book Day on 6th March! Your child isinvited to dress up as any book character they wish, and we will be taking part in lots of exciting book-related activities in class.
Through the Wider Curriculum, Foxes class will be learning about the comparisons of London and Berlin and Globalisation in Geography. Science will focus on Classification, particularly Linnaeus and Aristotle. In our computing lessons, we are designing and building our own webpages - look out for these in the near future.
Spellings will be given out and tested/marked on a Friday - please make sure these are practised at home.
Homework will be given out on a Friday. Please make sure this is completed and back in school on the Thursday. We will be marking in class together.
Our PE will take place on a Wednesday and Friday. Wednesday will be gymnastics and so remember to bring your shorts. On both these days, please remember to come in your correct school PE kit.
