Year 2 Badgers
Welcome to Badgers.
Class Teacher: Mrs Beighton
Learning Support: Miss Pyecroft
We have an exciting seven-week half-term ahead in the run-up to Easter, and I can’t wait to get started.
Maths
This half-term, the children will be learning about division and how it relates to multiplication. We will also be exploring length and measurement, developing key skills that will help them in real-life problem-solving situations.
English
Our focus text will be The Day the Crayons Quit, which will allow the children to develop their comprehension and writing skills. We will be introducing new punctuation marks, including commas and question marks, and working on constructing well-formed sentences. By the end of the unit, the children will be writing their own letters inspired by the story.
Wider Curriculum
In science, we will be investigating different materials and their properties before moving on to our history topic, where we will be learning about explorers in history and their incredible journeys.
PE
For the next two weeks, PE will continue to take place on Thursdays and Fridays. However, please note that from the week beginning 9th March, there will be a change in the PE schedule. PE will then take place on Wednesdays and Thursdays as the children will have an exciting opportunity to learn how to play tennis with Toby from Ashby Tennis Club for the remainder of the term.
Reading
Reading will continue to take place weekly, and books will be changed every Monday and Thursday. Please continue to support your child’s reading at home by encouraging them to read regularly and discuss their books with you.
World Book Day
We are looking forward to celebrating World Book Day on 6th March! Your child is invited to dress up as any book character they wish, and we will be taking part in lots of exciting book-related activities in class.
We have so much to look forward to this half-term, and I’m excited to see all the fantastic learning that will take place. Thank you, as always, for your support.
